Editorial Policy

Byline: DesiCalc Editorial Team. Last reviewed 2026-10-30.

DesiCalc exists to give Indian taxpayers and vehicle buyers a fast, private way to estimate statutory charges. That only works if the underlying numbers can be trusted, so this page states the standards every calculator page on the site is expected to meet.

Who writes DesiCalc

All pages are published under a single byline: DesiCalc Editorial Team. No individual names, photographs, or personal profiles are published, and we do not present any contributor as a licensed tax practitioner. The team is responsible for sourcing rates, writing explanations, and answering corrections. Because authorship is shared, a correction request is reviewed by the person who did not originally verify the figure wherever that is possible.

Source requirements

Every rate claim on the site must link to an official source. For central taxes that means the Income Tax Department or the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs; for state duties it means the state's own registration or transport department; for vehicle rules it means the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways or the Parivahan portal. Unsourced numbers are not published, even when they match a widely repeated figure online. If a primary source cannot be located, the claim is removed or labelled as an estimate with the basis stated next to it.

Review process

Before a calculator page goes live, its displayed rates are checked against two things: the shared rate data in state-rates.js, and the official source for that state or tax head. The calculator logic is then run against known examples to confirm the formula matches the published rule. Any page that fails this comparison is held back rather than shipped with a note.

Update policy

We show a last-updated date on pages that have been re-verified, and update the dateModified schema value whenever a page changes. Pages that have not been re-verified yet may show an earlier date until they are reviewed again.

Corrections

Report a suspected error to desicalc@gmail.com and include the page, the state, and the official source that shows the correct figure. Corrections we can verify are published within 48 hours. The correction is applied to the rate data and the affected pages, and the change is recorded in the public changelog on our methodology page so readers can see what moved and when.

Advertising and funding

DesiCalc currently runs no ads. There are no sponsored calculator results, no paid placements inside the rate tables, and no affiliate links in the explanations. Hosting is provided on Cloudflare Pages. If that ever changes, this section will be updated before any advertising is introduced, and any commercial relationship will be disclosed on the page where it appears.

Contact

Questions about these standards, requests for a source, and general feedback can go through our contact page. For rate corrections, email is faster because it lets you attach the notification you are citing.
